Kristen has been around volleyball her entire life. As a little kid, she played with her parents, sisters, and extended family. She joined indoor club volleyball at age 9, played at Daniel Boone High School, and then added in grass and sand doubles as she got into college. She played indoor volleyball at West Chester University. During that time, she was named Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year for both WCU and the PSAC East conference. She graduated from WCU in 2008 with a Liberal Arts degree with a focus on coaching. After college, she continued to play both grass and sand in PA and surrounding states where her most notable wins were Women’s Open Pottstown Rumble in 2009, 2014, and 2015. After living in Charlotte, NC for 2 years, Kristen moved to Nashville in 2019.
Outside of volleyball, she loves spending time with her husband Matt and their furbabies Cora, Swarley, and Laguna.
Emily grew up in Solon, Ohio, and played for Cleveland Volleyball Company. After high school, she went to Elon University where she played middle blocker on the indoor team since beach volleyball was not a collegiate sport yet. After graduation, Emily obtained her Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy in St. Augustine, FL. This is where she began to learn and train on the beach. She traveled all around Florida playing in beach volleyball tournaments for 10 years. During this time she also coached for a high school varsity team and coached for several indoor clubs. Now, Emily currently works for a medical device company as a care specialist in the rehab field working with neurologic patients to improve their independence.
Emily’s favorite hobbies are going to the lake, stand-up paddleboarding, volleyball, fishing with her husband, and playing with her two golden retrievers!
Tim spent his college years at Texas Tech University as a setter and outside hitter for his club team and was a student assistant for the Division I women’s volleyball team. After college, Tim moved to California to pursue pro beach volleyball. During that time, he pursued his Master’s Degree at Cal State Long Beach. He also worked as a coach for Cal Juniors Volleyball Club and as a physical trainer. While never making the pro tour, Tim has had a rewarding career in healthcare, helping open over 100 treatment centers for teens across the country.
He and his wife Abby met playing volleyball in college, and have two sons, Collyn and Bryce, that keeps them constantly on their toes.

“It is my job to help you become the best version of you that you can possibly be! In our training sessions, I will help the team master technique, form, balance, agility, endurance, gameplay, communication, teamwork, and skill.”
When not practicing or playing volleyball, you will find Cristian riding his motorcycle in the beautiful hills of Tennessee or training in the gym.
Beach volleyball has been a major part of my life for over 30 years and it’s not only a sport I love playing but also a sport I love teaching.
My interest in volleyball really exploded when, 20 years ago, I built a professional sand volleyball court on my property in North San Diego County. I began hosting monthly, all-day volleyball tournaments and during the week offered lessons to players of all ages and skill levels.
Now, after more than two decades teaching and playing beach volleyball in Southern California I find myself living in Tennessee where the interest in this beach game is equally vibrant and exciting. And, not only am I thrilled to be in the Volunteer State but, ironically, I’m also thrilled to be a volunteer with the esteemed John Hyden Beach Academy where I can continue teaching the sport I love.
